Rachel Thomas (00:01): Welcome to Tilted: A Lean In Podcast. This season, we’re bringing you conversations at the intersection of gender and culture. We’ll dig into topics we are curious about, highlight people who inspire us to push for change, and share expert advice to help you make the playing field a little less tilted.
Rachel Thomas (00:23): I’m your host, Rachel Thomas, Co-Founder and CEO of Lean In. Last season, we talked to Eva Longoria about women taking the lead in Hollywood.
Eva Longoria (00:32): That’s why you want women behind the camera, because it does make a difference in what goes on screen, which makes a difference in what people see, which makes a difference on how people perceive women.
Rachel Thomas (00:42): And we heard from Serena Williams about how women get overlooked in healthcare.
Serena Williams (00:46): A lot of women, especially Black women, aren’t listened to. And the rate that Black women are dying and the mortality rate of moms, it’s not shocking, it’s actually frightening.
Rachel Thomas (00:57): In this season, we’ll explore new topics with an emphasis on concrete actions we can all take. We’ll talk about how women are expected to use humor and how they’re challenging the status quo.
Cameron Esposito (01:08): In the workplace, we tend to joke around about things that we are serious about when we’re scared. And I would love to encourage women to say how they really feel.
Rachel Thomas (01:19): We’ll talk about different expressions of gender identity.
Jacob Tobia (01:22): Let your kid lead. Every child knows their gender. And if they don’t know it exactly in that moment, it’s because they’re exploring. And if they’re exploring, that’s a wonderful thing. And just because your boy child wears a dress, doesn’t mean that your boy child’s trans, but it might mean that your boy child is trans, but just let them wear the dress and feel cute.
Rachel Thomas (01:39): And we’ll share tips on everything from fighting burnout to raising boys who don’t get stuck in the so-called man box.
Rachel Thomas (01:47): We hope you’ll join us. Look for Season Two of Tilted: A Lean In Podcast on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you listen, or by visiting leanin.org/podcast.
